Do you say what you really mean?

In Japanese language, there are two words called 建前、本音。

建前 is the word you speak while 本音 is the underlying thinking of your mind.

Why we need to know is Japanese will hide their true feeling and express in a way not to influence the harmony between the person one is talking to. It is called 和。

And in fact this is one of the reasons I think I couldn't learn Japanese as well as I learn English.

Since in Chinese language, we will express ourselves directly. The Japanese way of thinking and way of communication often led to many confusions and even conflicts especially in the business field.
